Quite honestly, I don’t mind living in the province. The city always has the vibrancy and colors that fill my soul with undeniable energy, but the province always has an amazing charm and lovely countryside that I always long for when I need peace and solitude.
Every time I go to the province, I make it a point to savor the moment and take my time because I don’t really travel frequently. To my standards though, I’m pretty much living the “province” kind of life and I’m saying this because I live in a town down South which is an hour (sans traffic) away from the city.
Although the traffic is toxic and most of the time unbearable, I delight in the fact that when I arrive home, I’m greeted with fresh air and a peaceful environment. This is why I still choose to live here despite the distance from the city and the heavy traffic during rush hours.
Anyway, this is going to be the last installment of my SouthWalk2017 series.
If you haven’t checked the series yet, I featured my photographs of Carcar, Sibonga, Argao, Dalaguete, Boljoon.. and now the picturesque town of Oslob!
Yet again, we were welcomed with a beautiful structure when we arrived – the Nuestra Señora de la Inmaculada Conception or Immaculate Conception Parish Church. According to stories, it is also one of the oldest churches in Cebu and has survived fires and other damages in the past few years.
Good thing, the locals were able to preserve it and now it’s still standing tall despite the adversities it has experienced through the years. The foggy background added to its charm. I loved that it was cold when we arrived. It wasn’t the lonely kind of coldness. In fact, the entire place including the boulevard or the bay walk and the heritage park is brimming with life.
The Oslob cuartel is another sight to behold. Made with thick coral stones, this served as the barracks or headquarters of soldiers during the Spanish era. Although this massive structure remained unfinished, it’s still beautiful! The fact that it’s unfinished just added more to its mystery. Who knows what really happened exactly during the Spanish era, right?
The Boulevard, on the other hand, was my personal favorite! I just seem to be so engrossed whenever I’m in a bay walk.
I wish we could stay longer! But I guess this means I should visit again to see more of Oslob.
The last three photos have got to be my most favorite in this series – pictures of simplicity and togetherness.. or what have you; depending on how you see them. 😉
There is so much more to see in the South! Oslob was our last destination during our road trip but it certainly isn’t the last beautiful destination at all. It’s not surprising.. because Cebu is very unassuming yet it has several unique wonders that one should visit and discover.
