Winter Sonata is probably the only Korean Drama series I remember watching when I was younger. This series was one of the famous ones filmed on Nami Island. Even though it wasn’t winter when we went, the autumn season at Nami definitely did not disappoint.
After The Garden of Morning Calm, we headed to Nami Island, hopped off just around the vicinity to eat lunch, and went off. It wasn’t really a long trip from the garden – probably took us about 30 minutes or so.
About Nami Island from Wikipedia
Namiseom or Nami Island is a half-moon shaped river island located in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea, formed as the land around it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam in 1944.

Klook.comThis blog post from Klook says, “Featured on the famous Korean drama, ‘Winter Sonata,’ this romantic destination is a real charmer. Magic and unique, the islet of Nami declared cultural independence from Korea, calling itself the Naminara Republic.”
It took about 5-10 minutes to get to the island from the mainland. It was a lovely tourist spot and had a fairy-tale-like feel to it. As it is a famous destination when in Korea, the swarm of tourists every now and then was quite expected.
Nonetheless, I think it’s a must-visit as a tourist. It’s just a few minutes ride if you’re coming from The Garden of Morning Calm anyway so why not visit?
I feel like the key is to take enough photos, find a quiet corner to rest, and soak it all in. Relax for a while and imagine that you’re in a movie set or a storybook.
The vibrant colors of Nami Island, especially in autumn, the trees lining up in symmetry, and the leaves falling are sights to behold. I imagine it’s a haven for photo enthusiasts for many like me.
We probably stayed at Nami Island for about an hour, but if you want to stay longer, you definitely could – just take note of the ferry schedule and plan your time well. I think it would have been great to stay the entire day and wander the entire island, eat the delicious food, participate in activities, and all that jazz but since we only had limited time, we couldn’t. But like I always say, it’s a reason to go back for another trip.
Here are some unfiltered photos from my Realme 9 Pro phone.
Nami Island was also the setting of my current Facebook profile pic. Haha.
Quick OOTD Trivia: I kinda wasn’t sure what to wear that day. I thought that it would be too much to wear a bold pink color over a bold orange color (I actually did, haha!) but I didn’t have any white tops anymore ‘so yeah whatever, let’s go with what we have‘ was the peg for the day.
I bought the bag from one of the subway shops the previous day – love the quirky design (exactly my type). The dusty pink boots, which I LOVE AND EVERYBODY LOVES, were from Timberland which I bought at 50% off from SM Seaside Cebu. What a steal – from PHP 12K down to 6K! Plus points: they’re really comfffyyyy too.
