Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it. The great Confucius had it right because I truly realized what it means after opening my eyes a little more to the unconventional beauty of what’s around me.
I see the beauty in the coastal town of Boljoon and the picture-perfect Oslob (next post). I just hope everyone sees it. ♥ Picturesque is the perfect word in my mind to describe the wonders of these two towns. Just like the first few towns we visited during our road trip, these two also have a rich history attached to their beauty.
As I am always fascinated with architecture both grand and simple, it’s a delight to see what the two towns have to offer.
We started admiring the famous Nuestra Señora de Patrocinio Parish Church. The aging structure looks even more beautiful with its intricate carvings (the door’s my favorite).
It began to drizzle when we arrived at Boljoon. The wind was cold and chilly but it was the perfect add-on to the town’s sleepy backdrop. I walked across the street and savored the fresh air as well as the vast body of water in front of me. “Sublime” – I said. I remember that word back in college during my Aesthetics class and it fits perfectly.
I took a photo of the church from across the street. It looks so charming. It has a perfect background too!
Another highlight we saw was the Escuela Catolica. It was built in 1940 and was used for religious teachings. It is now a meeting place for the parish church and other religious groups. The structure is said to have more of an American influence rather than the typical Spanish we always have.
You will also not miss this two-story structure that stands on the far edge of the area – the Boljoon Blockhouse. It was built in 1808 and served as the main fortress of the church. It is now used as a bell tower.
We only had a few minutes to explore Boljoon but just like what I’ve mentioned in my previous posts about SouthWalk, I wanted to explore the towns more. Among all the towns we visited, Boljoon and Oslob are my personal favorites. They really have this countryside feel that I’m looking for, and when you are in these towns, it would seem like the hours stretch like forever.
