How to Enjoy Hong Kong Disneyland Alone

Hongkong Disneyland

I went to Hong Kong Disneyland ALONE. Yup, you read that right. Who in his or her right mind would go to Disneyland alone? ✋ Uh-huh you’re looking at her – me.

During my solo trip to Hong Kong, I went to Disneyland by myself. Obviously. Haha. You would think it’ll be more fun if you experience Disney with your family or closest friends, right? And I agree. But since, as I said, it was a solo trip and I really wanted to check out Disneyland, I chose to enjoy it alone along with the many people (read: strangers) I would come across.

Getting There

Option 1) Airport Express: If you’re flying into Hong Kong International Airport, the Airport Express train is the fastest way to get to the city. From there, you can easily transfer to the Disneyland Resort Line at Tsing Yi Station. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

Option 2) MTR (Mass Transit Railway): If you’re already in Hong Kong, you can take the MTR to Disneyland Resort Station directly. The Disneyland Resort Line operates from Sunny Bay Station.

Option 3) Taxi or Uber: Taxis and Uber are readily available in Hong Kong. Just tell the driver you’re heading to Hong Kong Disneyland, and they’ll take you directly to the entrance.

Since I was coming from Tsim Sha Tsui in the city center, I took the MTR to Sunny Bay Station. (I love the name Sunny Bay, by the way – it’s giving sunny and happy vibe). 😎 I also really loveee the Disney train. It’s super on-brand with the mickey mouse windows. I don’t think I have a photo because I didn’t want to be invasive inside the train as it’s always full of people.

I booked my ticket via Klook. I bought the Klook Pass to see 2 attractions then paid an add-on for Disneyland. If you’re going to Disneyland only, then you can get the standalone ticket. Book yours on Klook as well. It’s easier and more convenient.

One important thing to note is that aside from the Klook voucher ticket, you will be sent another ticket to your email. Pay attention to the email you will get because it will contain all the instructions for admission.

Another VERY important thing is to look up the park schedule online or read the details on Klook or the Disney website. When I was in Hong Kong, the park was only open two days out of the week. I think I was there on a Thursday. Dates may change so be sure to check it first.

As usual, I headed out to Disneyland in the late afternoon because I had lots of work to do in the morning. I think it was also the best time for me to avoid the scorching heat and at the same time, the rain. Weather was insane when I was there, but thankfully, when I arrived, the weather was perfect for walking around.

Anyway, I still enjoyed my time and made the most of my day. I didn’t have the whole day to spend there because I was heading to Macau the next day.

So how do you really enjoy Disneyland alone? Here are some nifty tips for you if you’re planning to go solo.

    Enjoy Hong Kong Disneyland Alone

Disneyland is HUGE and if you do not have the whole day or another day, it can be tricky to navigate. Read through for some quick tips on how to enjoy Hong Kong Disneyland alone.

Park Map: Upon entering Hong Kong Disneyland, pick up a park map and show schedule. This will help you plan your day and navigate the different lands efficiently.

Single-Rider Lines: Take advantage of single-rider lines for popular attractions like Space Mountain and Hyperspace Mountain. This can significantly reduce your wait time, as you’ll be grouped with other solo riders to fill empty seats.

Mobile App: Download the Hong Kong Disneyland mobile app to check wait times, locate dining options, and view show schedules in real time. It’s a handy tool for solo travelers to stay organized and maximize their time in the park.

What’s going to help you big time is if you plan ahead which areas you want to see, what activities you want to do, where you want to eat, and even what souvenirs you want to buy and take home.

I would have wanted to buy my Hong Kong Starbucks mug there but the line was crazy long!

    Must-See Attractions

Mystic Manor: This unique dark ride takes you on a journey through a haunted mansion filled with magical artifacts and enchanted paintings. It’s a must-see for any Disney fan.

Festival of the Lion King: Experience the sights and sounds of Africa in this vibrant stage show featuring beloved characters from The Lion King.

Iron Man Experience: Join Tony Stark on a thrilling adventure through the streets of Hong Kong as you battle Hydra alongside Iron Man himself.

Disney Paint the Night Parade: Don’t miss this spectacular nighttime parade featuring colorful floats, beloved Disney characters, and dazzling special effects.

    Solo Traveler Tips

Disneyland is filled with happy energy. As soon as you enter, you immediately feel the cheerful vibe of the ‘Happiest Place on Earth.’ Every corner is beautiful. Even the trash cans are cute – so my main tip really is to appreciate everything you see. Yup, down to the trash cans. Because when you do, you will feel blessed and grateful to be there even when you’re alone.

Single-Rider Lines: As mentioned earlier, take advantage of single-rider lines to minimize wait times and experience more attractions throughout the day. But don’t feel like you have to try everything because, trust me, there’s not enough time in the day. Choose the ones that are available right away and find the joy in them.

Hot Tip 🔥 Search ahead which rides have single-ride services so you know which ones to choose! At the moment, they have the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Matterhorn Bobsleds, and Space Mountain. These lines may not always be open especially at the beginning of the day or at closing time.

Again, these things change and there are also some factors to consider to truly enjoy your rides. Here’s a great article about single-rider lines.

Photos: It can be quite challenging to take photos when you’re alone, and moreso, ask other guests to take photos of you as they’re also occupied taking photos of themselves. It doesn’t hurt to try asking though for sure. Tbh, just bring a tripod or a selfie stick.

If you have an extra budget, another option is to consider purchasing a Disney PhotoPass to capture your memories throughout the park. Cast Members are happy to take solo photos for you at iconic locations.

Rest: Rest when you need to. There’s gonna be a lot of walking. It’s okay to sit back, relax, and watch the world go by. There are lots of quiet spaces where you can reflect and meditate.

Dining: Enjoy a leisurely meal at one of the park’s themed restaurants or grab a quick bite at one of the many snack stands scattered throughout the park. Don’t be afraid to dine alone – it’s a great opportunity to relax and recharge for the rest of your day.

When I saw the long line at Starbucks, I decided to buy food at the diner beside it. It was full of people so as soon as I got my order, I went outside, sat on the stairs on the sidewalk beside the diner, and watched people go by as I ate my meal. Dramatic I know, but I swear you’d be fine.

Meet Characters: Take the opportunity to meet your favorite Disney characters throughout the park. Many solo travelers find these interactions to be some of the most memorable moments of their visit.

Shopping: The souvenir items are super cute! I had a hard time choosing which ones to buy. They’re not cheap too so I had to be strategic. Ha! I ended up buying a Disney shirt and a Disney iPhone case with the Beauty and the Beast design in a stained-glass material. The phone case is soooo lovely. 😍 Like I mentioned earlier, it’s best to list down the things you plan to buy so that you’d know exactly what you’re getting and you avoid overspending.

Stay until the night: Unfortunately for me, I couldn’t stay late because of the next-day trip to Macau. I would have wanted to see the fireworks and the dazzling night lights around Disney. Next time, I’d keep this in mind.

So did I enjoy? Was it fun or lonely?

Not gonna lie that at first, I felt a bit lonely mainly because I thought it would have been more fun if my family had been with me. But Disneyland (and the entire Hong Kong) IS NOT CHEAP so bringing the entire family was not ideal at that time. Hmm – maybe next time when the time is right, I can bring all of them. Plus I knew it was really meant to be a solo trip. I found ways to enjoy my short Disney trip and so I did. 💗🥰
